October 2025: The Next Episode

Welcome back to the blog!!

I missed you all so much. I thought I would talk about how I ended up here and how I managed how I've been managing so far. I guess we should start at the beginning.

Six years ago (2019), during my senior year of high school, I went to Guatemala for the first time on a mission trip. I got to see God working in all kinds of incredible ways. I got to witness healing, which is an incredible story in and of itself that would honestly deserve its own posts. (Stay tuned, maybe in November or December I’ll write more about that!) We worked in remote villages remote villages where we got to hear how God was working in them, even if they believed in a different version of Him. I was really touched by the people there. They're incredible. They're hardworking, salt of the earth people who often have been neglected by the powers that be. There's been a lot of suffering, a lot of poverty, even as the country becomes more affluent.

And this brings us to a crossroads. On the one hand, the country's no longer unreached. There's a thriving local church here in Guatemala. On the other hand, many people do turn away from God or syncretize their form of Christianity with Mayan religion. Even though I work in a very Christian-centric environment, I know that there is a great deal of tricks the devil plays here to get people to turn away from Christ. Maybe one day I can work on it. But God just shows up, and being who he is, I feel very supported here even with all the craziness around me, just like I talked about in my last posting.

Anyway, this past month was crazy. At school, we did our Independence Day celebration leading into September 15. It was a lot of preparing, a lot of taking time away from classes, a lot of nervousness. I'd never done anything like that before—I’d never led an arts production. We had our students get together and sing a traditional Guatemalan song called Luna de Xelajú. Obviously, all the Guatemalan families in the crowd knew it. They were they were all singing along, which was nice, and I got a lot of compliments after the show. It was a beautiful reminder that, even when you feel like you’ve lost, you can still win if you put in enough effort. Now on to our prayer points!!

A scene I captured at a professional soccer game recently. Sometimes I wish NFL fans brought the same intensity...then I remember my sister married into a Bills family!

- We're still going through our accreditation year, so something to pray for for the school that we maintain our American accreditation. Specifically, pray that all of us teachers come together and get ready for review come spring, and that God would just have his hand over all that and motivate us.

- I continue to work with Light for the Future, of course, continue to lead lessons with them. Recently, we played a bunch of games and had pizza because October 1st is Día del Niño (Children’s Day) here in Guatemala. It was so much fun celebrating and unwinding with the students!! That will end this month, though, so pray that the children will stay safe as they go without our classes.

- I continue to give tests and continue to grade papers, though not all my classes are created equal. There are some that are easier to teach than others. I would appreciate some prayer for strength, stamina, and the ability to pace well.

-  I’ll just say one more, one more thing, and that this next month, I'm really starting to get money for more money coming in, which is great, but I really need even more. I’m looking to raise at least 50 extra dollars this month (the ideal range would be more like $100 to $200). Please give as you feel led, though this money would primarily be used to offset some healthcare expenses. As it is, most of my money is spent on transportation and food, but healthcare is beginning to grow as well. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made at this link

And that’s all for now!! Thank you all so much for coming alongside me on this journey! I cannot wait to see how God will make you all known to the people here in Mixco, in Guatemala City, and to the ends of the earth!!
